Uruguay Artist Presents the Candombe

By Sim Bartson at 10/02/07 07:02

, sisto:Candombe Oil Painting: Candombe Traditional Uruguay Dance

Candombe is the name for a drum based music of Uruguay. The Afro-Uruguayan population of Montevideo originated the Candombe. Its culture origins are from the Bantu African drumming. Some tango and European influence were mixed in.

Shown here is a painting by Uruguayan Artist Sisto Pascale. You can aslo enjoy the Candombe live during Carnival in Montevideo.

There is a competition of Candombe groups in the Teatro de Verano during the Carnival and 80 or more groups perform in Las Llamdas a massive parade.
