The Relaxed Life

If there's one word that Montevideans use to describe their home city, that would be "tranquil."

Indeed, city life in Montevideo is more relaxed and laid back than its foreign counterparts. Compared with its cousin Buenos Aires, Argentina, there's much less to be busy about in this Uruguayan capital. Just don't apply this to the city's ports because its port is one of the busiest in the continent.

Ibero-American Carnival Capital to be

Montevideo Uruguay's Carnival Museum won Spain's Queen Sofia prize this year and the City is making all-out effort to make the city the Ibero-American carnival capital too which will lead cities in South America who also celebrates carnivals such as Tenerife, Cádiz, Río de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Valparaiso. The carnival in Uruguay takes place mostly in Montevideo last for 40 day starting January with lots of parades and street theater events.

CARNAVAL! Las Llamadas Parade

Uruguay claims to host the longest Carnaval in the world, boasting a whole month of activities throughout the month of February. Although Carnaval is celebrated throughout the country (and I've heard the parades in the small beach towns of Punta Del Diablo and La Pedrera are fantastic), the biggest events take place in the capital, Montevideo.
