As I wandered around Montevideo I started to wonder who all these people are that have streets and squares named after them, and why some dates are so important they lay claim over the biggest thoroughfares in the city....so I decided to investigate. A Blessing of the Sun ceremony, which is only done once every 28 years, was held just recently in Montevideo, drawing the attention of national media. The director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Uruguay, Rabbi Eliezer Shemtov, explained to the media the significance of this rare occassion, which happens before the Passover, right after the sunrise ceremonies.
