Argentine blockade continues against Uruguayan plant

11/28/08 13:25
It has been going on for two years already, but the protest is not stopping anytime soon until Uruguay closes down the pulp plant that the Argentines claim to be polluting their shared river.

According to the Uruguayan government, the pulp plant meets international environmental standards (this is backed up international studies) but the Argentines just won't budge, further straining the two countries' working relationship.

US Politics' Global Influence

11/24/08 21:29
The Latin America has been taken for granted by Northern America for so long, until the emergence of leftists leaders on these countries. The image of the United States of America is considered to be double standard by these neglected countries. They patronize other Northern American influence but hates the US government's intervention or meddling. Former US President Bush was not very popular both in and out of the country he lead and as the change in leadership this January draws near. People from all over the world hopes that the new government of Obama will unify and shows equality to them. Read the rest of the authors sentiments here:

The United States, South America, and Uruguay

11/11/08 01:00
South America has long been the experimentation laboratory of neoliberalist economic policies concocted by the United States, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank. These economic policies have long been disdained by South American leaders, but most of them were left without any choice. Now that this particular system is failing in the US, South American leaders are rejoicing--and trying to undo these policies beset in their own countries.

One country has done that years back, though, and that is in the form of Uruguay.
