Uruguay run-off elections

11/10/09 15:25

It turns out that there will be a run-off election in Uruguay in a couple of weeks. The usual left-wing, right-wing, power struggle will continue. But, as candidate Mujica has expressed powerfully, no matter what happens the "country will keep going". That´s right, the basis of democracy is that it all continues until the next election. No blood, no tanks, no bayonets. Most likely Mujica will be the winner as he received the highest level of votes in the elections. As usual the "undecided" will decide. One of the key items in the election, however, is the part regarding the overturn of the Amnesty law. There are some high level military officers sitting at home that need inquiries into their actions during the military dictatorship.
