It is currently one of two major players in the business of the affairs of the world in general. The presidential race between Jose Mujica, an ex guerilla leader and Luis Lacalle, a former president of the nation, is still too close for one to be able to call.
More than fifty percent of the votes are needed by Jose Mujica in order for him to avoid a runoff against the former president of Uruguay. The lead that Mujica has is not yet significant enough for anyone to tell if he is going to come out as the victor.
