Traducciones-Montevideo Interview

By Interviewer at 10/23/09 16:25

Name of your website?

Traducciones-Montevideo

Your name?

Nelida Kreer

Your Location (city, etc)

Montevideo

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Offers translation services from English to Spanish to English on a freelance basis by a Public (Sworn or Official)Translator, native in Latin American Spanish, with University degree, specializing in legal, finance and business texts but qualified to do any kind of translation. Also proofreading and editing of Spanish texts is provided.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I just wanted to put my services "in the map"; being an excellent translator is not enough, you have to let people know about it. And the days where being in the "yellow pages" of the phone book was quite sufficient to advertise your services, are a thing of the past. Either you are in cyberspace or you simply do not exist.....and this was certainly NOT a viable alternative...

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

Only last month, and it is my one and only....http://www.traducciones-montevideo.com

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I thought at first of many grandiose, eye-catching, "sticky", attractive names, but then I decided on a name which reflected exactly what I do and where I do it from: "Traducciones" is Spanish for "Translations", and "Montevideo" is the city where I was born, reside in and work out from. And last but not least, it coincides with what you would type into the search box.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

The fact that it is streamlined, states the essential facts, does not have unnecessary clutter, has a bilingual user-friendly approach, is completely free from any self-promoting hype, stresses the fact that I am University-trained and -qualified, has some links pointing to a full professional profile, applicable laws (local, regional and international)governing the intervention of sworn translators in my country.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To get clients interested in my services contact me easily.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I donīt know yet, it is too recent to allow for an informed evaluation.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would upgrade it to include more pages.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

I am not aiming at growing that way, my aim is to continue being a freelance translator, able to provide an excellent personal service to my clients.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None so far (keeping my fingers crossed....)

What has been your biggest challenge?

Learning all the ropes about SEO. Which still remains a challenge, hope to eventually master the art.....

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Telling everybody I know about it - by word of mouth, as it were. I really hate spamming, so I would never resort to obnoxious indiscriminate mailing. And then, submitting my site to friendly directories, such as yours for instance!

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

At first it was a real headache, and I felt ready to throw in my towel, but then I slowly started getting the hang of it and now I am actually enjoying the whole process of trying to position my website and elbowing myself into cyberspace....

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Early days....it is too soon to predict any of this.

What would it take for you to feel that your website is a success?

First of all, a good inflow of clients wanting to use my services, and telling me that they learned about me through my website; secondly, a significant number of visitors and a good popularity rating; and thirdly, being congratulated on it - because I developed it myself and it involved a good deal of work, simple as it may look to trained eyes....

What is your website address?
