Once you are in Montevideo, there are a number of sites that you should not miss out. One of them is the Plaza Independencia.
Framed in the center of the square is Uruguay's version of San Martin, Jose Gervasio Artigas. Artigas had been a colonial soldier guarding the western boundary of Uruguay from the odd Indians of Portuguese. Surrounding the square is the old government house and the historic Radisson hotel.
